추미림은 동시대의 일상적 환경(Interface)을 온라인과 도시로 설정하고, 작품을 통해 이 두 장소의 겹쳐보기를 시도한다. 디지털 화면의 가장 작은 단위인 사각형의 픽셀과, 위성지도로 내려다 본 도시 구조에서 추출한 기하학적인 도형을 조합하거나 반복시켜 이 두 장소가 교차하는 풍경을 그리고자 한다. 이를 위해 작가가 매일 마주하는 컴퓨터 그래픽 툴과 웹 환경의 기본 구성 요소를 도시의 구조와 비교해 보거나, 도시의 조형성이 극대화 된 상태를 추출하기 위해 웹 위성지도 프로그램(예:구글어스)을 사용해 위성의 시선을 활용한다. 작가의 일상적 환경의 시작이자 원형에 가깝다고 생각하는, 작가가 처음 접하고 UI 디자인으로 설계 및 개발에 참여했던 2000년 초반의 디지털 세계의 특징과 나고 자란 계획 신도시의 노스텔지어에 대한 이야기를 통해 도시적이고 동시에 디지털적인 감수성을 표현하고자 한다. 이와 함께 미세하지만 매일 변모하는 현재의 일상의 환경(Interface)을 관찰하고 이를 작품으로 기록해 나가고자 한다.

Using pixels as elements in her work, Mirim Chu engages in formative experiments that go beyond design and fine art. She critically explores keywords related to computer graphics, pixels, and the internet etc., and she has great interest in producing work where the cross- sectional aspect of images used in social network sites may be viewed from various angles. All her works, in particular, transform a visually hidden web-based society into a series of images, reflecting the artist's intention to directly present the digital landscape around us. As time passes, her perspective which looks at the life forms of the contemporary young generation gets brought out across a more diverse spectrum.
